Sin entrar en detalles, hoy ha sido uno de mis días más negros en Japón (el más negro, quizás). Sin embargo, todo puede dar la vuelta. Afortunadamente, hoy "I got by with a little help from my friends"… aunque ellos ni se enteren. Ha sido una suerte poder ver después de dos años a Mayu (a la que todos en el Barco recordamos como "la chica que nunca deja de sonreir" –y es una sonrisa sincera–) y he disfrutado enseñándole Fukuoka.

Without giving much detail, today has been one of my worst days here in Japan (perhaps, the worst of them all). However, any situation can just turn upside down. Luckily, today "I got by with a little help from my friends"… although they don’t even notice. It’s been great meeting Mayu (the one everybody in the Ship remembers as "the girl who never stops smiling" –and that’s a true smile!) after two years and I had a great time showing her around.

A veces todo es tan sencillo como esto: buena música acompañada por una (o varias) cervezas, una charla con un amigo… y, por supuesto, chocolate y té de regalo!

Sometimes, it’s all about simple things: good music in the company of a beer (or many), a chat with a friend… and, of course, chocolate and tea as a present!

Acabo de leer un artículo de opinión de El descodificador, en www.elmundo.es y me he recordado a mí mismo en Londres, viendo en el cine Fahrenheit 9/11 de Michael Moore, completamente asqueado por el uso de los medios de comunicación por parte del gobierno de Estados Unidos para alimentar la alarma social y crear la psicosis entre la población americana. Los españoles tampoco estamos fuera de alcance.

I just read an opinion article extracted from El descodificador at www.elmundo.es and have recalled myself in London, watching Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11 in the cinema and feeling utterly disgusted by the use the US Government made/makes of media, feeding social alarm and creating psychosis among the American population. We Spaniards aren’t out of reach either.

Llega el nuevo año y con él la época para la reflexión y los buenos propósitos. Jamie Cullum parecía tenerlo muy claro en Next Year, Baby: "the answer’s probably no". En fin, de todas formas, una año más, yo no me voy a dar por vencido, pero, eso sí: este año haré uso de la experiencia (si es que estos 25 años pesan ya, eh) y no seré tan ambicioso. No es plan poner aquí todos, pero sí que cogeré algunos de las que menciona la canción y que realmente son parte de mis propósitos:

• voy a levantarme a una hora decente (y eso que soy de las personas que más temprano se levanta, en fin)
• voy a leer más libros (porque desde que he llegado a Fukuoka…)
• voy a mantenerme informado (que no se me olvide que soy un intérprete y bla bla bla…)
• voy a aprender a cocinar (estoy en ello, estoy en ello!!)

The New Year is here and so is the time for thinking and resolutions. Jamie Cullum seems to get it right in Next Year, Baby: "the answer’s probably no". However, one more year I’m not giving up, but here’s something: this year I will use my experience (25 years couldn’t be in vain, right?) and won’t be so ambitious. I’m not going to write down a whole list here, but I’ll take some of the resolutions mentioned in the song which really are part of my list:

• gonna get up at a decent hour (and still among the people I know I am one of those who gets up very early… whatever)
• gonna read more books (for since I have come to Fukuoka…)
• gonna keep up with the news (I don’t have to forget I’m an interpreter and blah blah blah…)
• gonna learn how to cook (I’m on it, I’m on it!!)
