For those of you who have been to Japan these pictures won’t reveal anything new. However, workers here do really give you a hand (and in a very literal sense). They use way more wokers here for something in Spain could be performed by a single person… o no person at all.

En primer lugar, el omnipresente “señor indicador luminoso”, sin el cual sería imposible vadear los peligros que entrañan las obras en las aceras niponas.

The other day I was thinking about this –it’s not that I don’t have anything to write about (because I certaintly have; loads of anecdotes and random thoughts cross my path every day), it’s just that I don’t spend much time in front of the computer… rather, in front of my computer at home… rather, in front of my computer at home doing something other than watching TV series. Because I think that keeping up with X series (Lost, 24, Gossip Girl, Battlestar Galactica and Gokusen) cannot be healthy… but I manage to keep up with my social life too. Something must be missing… sleep, maybe?

Some weeks ago I began writing this post…

“Hey, no ha pasado mucho tiempo (concepto un tanto arbitrario) desde mi última entrada, ¿no? Estoy cumpliendo con el propósito firme que me marqué, ¿no?

Hey, it hasn’t been such a long time (such an arbitrary idea) since I last wrote here, right? I’m sticking to my resolution!!

De cualquier modo, en lo sucesivo tendré que ir trabajado un poco más la miga de estas entradas, porque si bien es cierto que estoy seguro de que voy a escribir más a menudo, la verdad es que aún no las tengo todas conmigo en lo que a organización, tiempo libre y horas de sueño. Pero, bueno, como se dice aquí: “Ganbarimasu!!”

Anyway, from now on I will try and work harder on the content of the posts –I am sure I will write more often, but I’m still coping with the lack of organization, free-time and sleep. But as Japanese go… ganbarimasu!!

Para que veáis que no os engaño cuando digo que no paro (aún no he hecho nada de turismo en esta ciudad, y tenía en la lista un par de museos, parques y templos; pero, bueno, hay tiempo, ¿no?), dejo aquí testimonio fotográfico de mis “compromisos sociales”.

Here’s some visual evidence of my “social commitments” during last week, so that you can see I had little time to take a breath (and still I haven’ t been to the regular sightseeing places –and I had a list of museums, parks, shrines and temples, but… no time).”

Ahora, unos 20 días después, me he decidido a acabar lo que empecé. Para que veáis que si no he escrito antes ha sido por falta de tiempo, os pongo unas fotos de lo que he estado haciendo estos 20 días. No se puede apreciar plenamente el ajetreo de mis días porque todas (menos la de la excursión a Kamakura) son “fotos nocturnas”… ¡pero pensad que son todas de días diferentes!

Today, 20 days later, I’ve decided to finish what I started. If I haven’t written before it is because I didn’t have any time… and I’ll publish here some pics so that you can check what I’ve been up to these last 20 days. You cannot grasp the whole bustle because all of them (except for the one in Kamakura) are “night pictures”… but bear in mind that they are all taken in different days!

Como ya digo, estas fotos son “nocturnas”, pero no os penséis que soy un frívolo y que lo único que hago es pasármelo bien … También tengo compromisos serios, como “estudiar” por las mañanas en la academia e ir a clases de japonés por la tarde (con unos escasos 30 minutos entre medias para comer), asistir a las celebraciones relacionadas con mi futuro trabajo, hacer los deberes, estudiar para un examen (que conseguí aprobar… con una preparación “ligeramente inexistente”)… y BUSCAR PISO (¡que me mudo en un mes y esto se ha convertido en el centro de nuestras vidas ahora mismo!).

As I mention, these are only pics of my “nightlife”, but don’t think I’m that frivolous and do nothing else but having fun … I also have serious commitments like “studying” at the language school in the morning and taking its Japanese classes in the afternoon (with barely 30 to have lunch), attending to some events related to my future job, doing my homework, studying for a exam (I managed to pass it… without preparing it properly –look at the pictures!! )… and LOOKING FOR A FLAT (we’ll be moving in one month and this has become a big deal in our daily life!).

En un arranque de valor, he decido irme este fin de semana (tenemos puente) a Fukuoka con Marta, a ver a mis amiguitos, desconectar de Tokio y a comer comida de la buena. Espero que las fotos y las historias de Kyushu no se hagan tanto de rogar… pero no prometo nada.

Out of courage, I decided to spend the weekend (we have a long weekend) in Fukuoka with Marta, to see my friends there, disconnect from Tokyo and eat great food! However, I hope not the pics and the stories from Kyushu won’t take that long… but I cannot promise!

¡¡A partir de octubre estaré en TOKIO!!

Seré el nuevo (y primer) becario de Industrias Culturales de la Oficina Comercial de España en la capital del país del sol naciente y, aunque no sé exactamente en qué consistirá mi labor allí, ¡tengo muy claro que van a ser unos 15 meses a-lu-ci-nan-tes!

Por descontado que el zulillo de 25 metros cuadrados que será mi casa durante ese tiempo (¡tengo que empezar a buscar piso!) está a la completa disposición de todos mis amiguitos.

I hereby announce (although at the moment it’s just “temporary” and we’ll get the official lists in one week) that:

I will live in TOKYO from October!!

I will be the new (and first) intern in charge of the Spanish Cultural Industries working for the Spanish Trade Office in the capital city of “the country of the rising sun”. I’m not too sure of what my tasks there will be, but I’m positive that those 15 months there are going to be just greeeeat!!

Needless to say that I’d be more than happy to welcome my friends in the tiny 25 sqm hole I’m going to live in (I have to start searching for an apartment!!)… “Mi casa es tu casa!”

Some days ago, Setsu sent me the following picture.

La chica que está entre Woobin y Yasumi, cuyo nombre ignoro, es la nueva inquilina (taiwanesa, creo) de mi la habitación 207 de la residencia internacional de estudiantes de Ijiri, Fukuoka. Pobrecilla: creo que el fantasma del último chico que vivió allí se le seguirá apareciendo todas las noches de películas o fiestas varias.

The girl standing between Woobin and Yasumi, whose name  I don’t know, is the new (Taiwanese, I’ve been told) inhabitant of room 207 of Ijiri’s International Dormitory in Fukuoka. Poor her –I think the ghost of the last guy who was living there will haunt the room whenever they have movie-night or party at Ijiri.

The last of the Flashback batches, slightly soursweet. But we will meet some day, won’t we? (Note: Pay attention to the loot of my room… hard to see something like that even in a big sale!!)

Ya en Fukuoka, una de cal y otra de arena: muy contento de estar en casa (es curioso, pero me sentía menos raro en las calles de aquí que en Madrid) y de ver a mis amigos otra vez, pero nada satisfecho con el calor húmedo brutal que está haciendo, las cigarras (si no vivís aquí ni os lo podéis imaginar; ¡un ruido brutal durante toda la noche y parte del día! Parece como si alguien estuviera regando el jardín con un aspersor… pero a lo bestia.) y, sobre todo, ELLA. Hay historias que contar desde el momento en que nos reencontramos, pero lo más destacable es cómo rechazó los regalos que le envió mi madre (algo a lo que yo me opuse; pero bueno) diciendo que «Ella tenía muchas cosas en casa y que se los diera a otra persona, a alguien que los necesitara/quisiera.» Muy fuerte.
